Do You Call Your Insurance If Someone Hits You?

If a vehicle is hit, one should notify the police and consult an auto accident lawyer in Des Moines. Then they should call their insurance provider, as well as the other person’s provider.

Accidents in cars are frightening and intimidating. It can be difficult to recall what to do right then and to take all the necessary measures. This applies to any form of accident, regardless of responsibility.

If someone hits a car, the driver might be unsure whether he should contact their own insurance company or the other person’s insurance. Do they need coverage at all if the damage appears to be minimal?

What To Do If a Vehicle Is Hit

What To Do If a Vehicle Is Hit

Don't be alarmed if a vehicle is hit while driving. The driver should pull over to the side of the road and double-check that their passengers are safe and unharmed. Hopefully, the other driver has come to a halt as well. Then, the drivers should follow the same procedures as one would after any other car accident:

● Make a police report and call the cops.

● Exchange information with the other party in a collision.

● Photograph or videotape the damage.

● Make a list of any witnesses who saw the accident and their contact information.

● Notify the car insurance company that the car has been hit by another vehicle.

Liability Insurance for Vehicles

Vehicle liability coverage is a type of insurance that protects the driver from third-party injuries or property damage. There are two types of liability: bodily injury and property damage. This is the bare minimum of vehicle insurance that a driver can carry in order to drive legally.

Coverage for Collisions

If the driver is at fault for the accident, auto insurance can pay for any damages to that person’s car.

Coverage for Medical Payments

Medical Payments Coverage, often known as Medical Expense Coverage, is an additional insurance policy that pays for medical expenses incurred as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. It often covers health insurance costs, hospital visits, surgical charges, paramedic costs, and other medical emergency expenses.

If It Wasn't the Driver’s Fault, Should They Still Contact Their Insurance Company?

Even if the car accident is small, the person driving should inform their insurance provider. It's critical to contact an insurance provider as quickly as possible to discuss the situation, get it documented, and start the claims process. The insurance company can also help if roadside assistance is needed, such as having a car towed.

The driver should always inform their insurance provider if the individual who hit their car is not obviously at fault, or if they claim it was not their fault. The insurance company should inform the other person's insurer after all of the information has been filed and the police report has been reviewed, and the insurers can then investigate together to decide who was at fault.

Is It Necessary to Contact the Other Person's Insurance Company?

If the other driver hits a car and is obviously at fault (and admits it), the person hit can file a third-party claim with their insurance provider, and their policy can cover the damage. They can still call their insurance provider to inform them of the accident and their intention to file a third-party claim.

The type of coverage one has, and the nature of the accident can determine whether or not their auto insurance can pay for the repairs to their vehicle if they are hit by someone else. If the individual is not at fault in the accident, the person who crashed into them and their insurance provider has an obligation to pay for the cost of their vehicle's repairs, known as a car accident settlement. However, if this person does not have insurance or only has a limited amount of basic insurance, it can be tricky.

What To Do When Involved in a Car Accident?

● Make a police report.

● Contact your insurance provider.

● Take pictures of any damage to the car.

● To the best of your abilities, document the accident, including the time and place of the incident.

● Be careful of what you say to the at fault insurance

Should the Person Consult a Lawyer?

It is suggested that the person hit contacts a lawyer only if they or the passengers have been injured as a result of the accident. A lawyer can assist them with expert guidance, but it's a path that should only be taken if it's really required.
